The far-and-wide reach of the Wisconsin-based gas station chain looks to be growing once again.

After Janesville residents have clamored for more grocery store options on the southside, the city council of Janesville has decided to give the people what they asked for.

At 124,060,000 square feet, the Kwik Trip “Death Star” station is slated to dwarf the current largest gas station in the United States, which is currently the Buc-ee’s in Luling, Texas (75,593 square feet).

The Janesville City Council released a statement celebrating the approval as a win for the city as a whole, besides obviously the 12,000 residents who will be forcibly removed from their homes. Some city council members still think they can convince Southsiders that this will be a positive.

“We constantly hear complaints about not enough grocery options on the southside. While Kwik Trip is not a true grocery store, they did just release Mountain Dew-flavored donuts. So, they’re taking steps in the right direction,” the statement included.

The decision comes on the heels of Kwik Trip’s constant expansion across Janesville. There are currently 9 locations within the city limits.

The Janesville Globe reached out to Kwik Trip CEO Scott Zietlow about the plans.

Zietlow offered this statement: “We figured that with our 10th location here in Janesville, why don’t we make it a bit more special? That’s how our idea to completely ravage the entire southside and their residents came to be. We are excited to see where those individuals try to find housing. It’s quite a difficult housing market right now. We wish there was something we could do to help.”

Kwik Trip intends to break ground starting in August of 2026 or when the Mount Zion road construction concludes, whichever comes first.
